The Garden

At the Merchant’s House Marlborough

The 17th century garden

At the rear of the house, a truly magical sight awaits visitors: a glorious garden meticulously recreated to evoke the splendor of the 17th century. Step back in time as you wander through pathways lined with fragrant herbs and vibrant blooms, reminiscent of a bygone era.

Designed by Jeffrey Galvin-Wright, the garden’s construction and planting were carefully researched to be as close as possible to the style of a formal yet utilitarian garden.

The garden was completed in September 2007 and opened by Sir Roy Strong, the distinguished art historian and writer and a patron of The Merchant’s House.

The planting includes culinary and medicinal herbs, soft fruits, box hedging, ornamental shrubs and fruit trees.

A visit to the 17th century garden is included in your visit to The Merchant’s House.
