The Merchant’s House has received initial support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund to re-invent The Merchant’s House on Marlborough’s High Street, it was announced today. Made possible thanks to National Lottery players, the project aims to increase the resilience of the Merchant’s House and create an improved visitor offer.
Development funding of £30,000 has been awarded by the Heritage Fund to help The Merchant’s House progress their plans to apply for a full National Lottery grant at a later date.
The Merchant’s House is the most complete example of a 17th century townhouse on Marlborough’s High Street and with this funding from the Heritage Fund it moves one step closer to a historical hub in Marlborough.
The project will allow extensive consultation and research, to improve visitor experience to the historical site, giving us better insight into relevant themes and resources. A significant next step following major restoration over several decades.
Volunteers, local groups and schools will be able to take part in the project through events and training opportunities, allowing even more people to enjoy and play a part in the re-invention of The Merchant’s House.
In the long-term, the project will build the skills of volunteers, strengthen the resilience and future planning and ensuring that The Merchant’s House becomes more visible.
